WALL DECORATION

This is in our lounge in Andorra, the high wall needed some decoration, so I made this big frame with Marimekko's fabric and the red accessories added some colour. The 3 african ornaments comes from South Africa but I think the origin of the must be Malawi, they were made with this really heavy dark wood, so to modernise them I painted them with a metallic pearl paint.

EARLY SPRING

Middle of the January I promised some flowers in the middle of the winter. It took bit longer to realise the frames, because the electrical stapler that I bought didn't work so I had to return back to the shop and get a new one. I bought some artist canvas frames and with my fabrics I covered them. Easy to do, just make sure that your fabric is well ironed before you attach it to the frame.

PRINTED LINEN

The bunk bed is in corner next to the kitchen/dining area in our chalet, my brother made the bed and it serves well when we need some extra sleeping place for guest otherwise it serves as a relaxing reading place...The fabrics are from Marimekko, I have made the two duvet covers with a satin print from the Unikko Marimekko collection, it was a limited edition of that fabric and it goes well with the black and beige smaller print of Unikko Marimekko... These Unikko means poppy in Finnish comes in many colours, have a look at the Marimekko website, they really have stunning fabrics. My pillow cases are made of Marimekko's cotton fabric...

UNIKKO BY MARIMEKKO

Because my panel curtains have that Marimekko's Unikko flower pattern, I wanted  to have similar pattern on my window. I had few transparent plastic sheets so I copied 3 flowers of the curtain on to the sheet and I made a second sheet with different flowers, so that my window could have at least 6 different flower patterns. Here is a sample of my one stencil that I have used. I wanted to keep the flowers middle part free from paint. To keep a piece of plastic in the middle I had to cut my stencil in the way that the flower petals were cutted in 3 different parts, thats why there is a small differences with the stencil flowers and the original Marimekko Unikko Flowers.

MARIMEKKO

In the living room we have very high sliding door windows and on the top of that a triangular window that brings lots a light in. I have made the panel curtains with Marimekko's Unikko fabric and with some plain black cotton fabric. The panels are 60cm wide each and to hang them up I bought the special panel curtain rails from Ikea. The rails also exist for 45cm wide panel curtains. On the triangular window I have stencilled flowers which gives a nice shadow on the wall when the sun shines through them. I will later show you how to paint the flowers on the window...

TV CORNER In the Chalet

A cosy corner with Marimekko fatboys.

The light coloured wall is made of birch wood, behind the 1,2cm thick wooden sheet there is a black fabric.
