NEW COLOURS IN MY BEDROOM

Seasonal decorating can be fun. Just by changing part of the soft decoration, curtains, cushions, sheets, duvet covers, carpet or rugs can change the whole look of a room. I don't keep any curtains in my house and I don't even have carpets or rugs due to the under floor heating. Wooden floor don't like rugs while you using the under floor heating. So my way to change my bedroom on suite bathroom was to change the colour of the duvet covers and cushions and in the bathroom the towels and few bathroom items and candle holders. Then actually my husband made me a lovely LOVE message for our bedroom. See the next posting...

It is very easy to change the look of your room with few good ideas. if you don't have any, have a look of the list after the last photo of this posting. You can find some book that gives you lovely ideas for your bedroom...It is fun and you will have lot of joy to create something new...

H&M HOME

A week ago when I was in Stockholm I saw the first H&M Home shop that had opened in city centre of Stockholm. In the shop you have a display of most of their home products, bed linen, kitchen towels, bathroom textiles, cushions etc. you can purchase some items in the shop but all the items are in storage at the back of the shop. So to do your shopping you take a metal plate and you have a choice of small flat magnets with pictures of the items you can buy and then with this "shopping basket" you go to the cashier who will give you all the purchased product. Some product are only available on Internet... I wanted to make a photo of the shop but I was not allowed to do that...

All the photos are from the H&M HOME Spring 2010 catalog

INDISKA

While walking in the old part of Stockholm, we went in to Indiska shop, they also have shops in Finland but I just wanted to check this one and got a beautiful surprise... But some history first...

INDISKA 1901-1950

Mathilda Hamilton

In 1901 a female entrepreneur named Mathilda Hamilton decided to open a shop in Stockholm. She had lived in the Himalayas in northern India between 1894-1901. She called the shop Indiska Utställningen (Indian Exhibition) and it was situated on Regeringsgatan.
This is the beginning of what is now INDISKA Magasinet AB with more than 80 shops spread across Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway.

Free trade under responsibility constitute the main long-term contribution to economic development and reduced social injustices in the third world. This view is based on INDISKA Magasinet Soon 100-year experience in trading with developing countries, mainly India.

Some of the corner stones are:

Humanism and consideration

A business culture that affects the activity, co-workers and choice of suppliers.

Long Term and close supplier relations

A condition for influence and shared vision. Just like Indiska Magasinet, a majority of producers are run as family businesses, where close relationships, many 25-30 years old developed between owners and co-workers.

Presence and commitment

Trading with poor developing regions always means risks for problems and mistakes. But the philosophy is that through continued presence and active commitment faster create change and positive development.

This shop was just so amazing, after every corner there were something more, stairs going down took us to a old cellar, one part looked more like an old dungeon, The Indiska had really made something nice out of this place which is not too easy to realise...

CUSHION COVERS

We got 4 cushions with our coach when we bought it a year ago. The covers are dark brown velvet fabric and they didn't fit to the black, white and red lounge so I use to keep them on our guest bed. They just looked too plain. So with a help a glass, plastic cover and some metallic paint I changed them in 30 minutes. This is so easy to apply just get some paint for fabric or my paint was just a decoration paint for any type of painting. Pore some paint on a piece of cardboard and press your glass or what ever you want to use in the paint and then apply it on you fabric. For some fabric you might to need apply the paint several times to get the wanted effect. You can use any type of item that can print a pattern on your cushion covers. If you are not sure about the result try it first on some peace of fabric. Use your imagination and have fun!!!

BED LINEN

Today is the shortest day of the year, the winter solstice, it is 10.18 a.m. and the sun has just come up behind the forest... These winter periods, when the days are short and it feels like the night never ends, specially here in Finland and other northern part of the globe. The Bedroom has even a more important meaning this time of the year, warmer duvets and good bed linen are important for these frosty nights... My duvet cover and pillow cases are from South Africa and all the cushion covers were made by me. Here some bead details from the double cushion that can be folded behind the back while I read in the bed...

MY SUMMER COACH

The summer coach at the pier is made of two foam mattresses which have a loose cover, that are easy to wash. I have made over 15 cushions that we can use in many ways to get the best relaxation in the sunny day or warm summer evening.
